- Buy a QUALITY modem, something that you have avoided doing so far. Try a
- USR, or Penril, or an AT&T Paradyne modem, as these can handle noisy
- lines. Also, go for models with Enhanced Throughput Cellular and/or MNP10
- so you can use it as a noise filter to a degree.
-
- But don't forget to contact the phone company as well, as noisy lines
- often indicated a phone company problem. I just had a rather inconvenient
- run-in with Pacific Bell regarding my line quality. They said it was fine,
- I said it was crap. They claimed it was my wires, I said it was their
- network. I was right on both issues. I have a crap line due to their
- network.
-
- Odd, the other 3 lines in my house are fine....
-
- ALSO: don't forget folks, just because you have a v.34 or a v.34+ modem
- does not mean you'll get a 28.8 connection to other v.34 modems all the
- time. While I often get 28.8 connections, I have to fight to get the
- cleanest lines available to me. Being a VAR of the phone company has its
- perks!
